Class 37's return. EWS has reinstated 18 stored Class 37s to traffic to cover Sandite workings over the forthcoming leaf fall season for another season. They join 13 other Class 37s recently returned to traffic from store for Sandite work.

EWS Locomotive Moves. EWS has recently been moving its stored locomotive fleet due to the closure of Cardiff Canton. Margam depot has taken over much of the responsibility for looking after the regions traction requirements.

Cardiff Canton. The recent loss by EWS of its Mail traffic has seen the company rationalise its maintenance facilities. Among the more famous casualties is Cardiff Canton, which now only serves as a signing on point.

Class 56 Withdrawals. EWS has finally withdrawn its last remaining "Grids". With the remaining members of the fleet suffering from increasing engine hours and little maintenance it was inevitable that the end would come. However it came as a surprise to many that the end came so quickly with the many machines being simply turned off after EWS's new boss deemed them surplus to requirements. A Brush design intended for freight use, the first 30 were built under contract in Romania entering service during 1977 and the remainder were constructed by BREL at Doncaster and Crewe with the final machine entering service in 1984. The first class members were allocated to Tinsley for MGR work with later locos going to Toton and Gateshead also for coal work. The western region had an allocation for heavy stone and iron ore workings. 4Read More
 
Rail Mail. In the small hours of a Saturday morning, an important piece of British railway history came to an end when Royal Mail ran their last Travelling Post Office trains. The distinctive Royal Mail-liveried Mk1 coaches, carrying postal staff who sort mail while on the move, will no longer be seen in service.

37402 "Bont Y Bermo derails. Recently arrived back in South Wales after repairs to its bogies, 37402 found itself leaving the rails whilst attempting to depart Newport Godfrey Road sidings on Saturday 21st August 2004. It was re-railed within the hour and sent to Margam for assessment.

FA Cup & Play Offs. Once again this years FA Cup final and Play Offs produced a variety of locomotive hauled traction bringing eager football fans into the centre of Cardiff. This year the scene was dominated by EWS class 67's.

Class 58's Export. EWS has secured a number of foreign infrastructure contracts with French and Spanish operators. Initially Class 37's were supplied, but now that the newer Class 58 has become surplus to requirements.

Livery Changes. One of the better liveries to emerge from the private operators is the version of maroon chosen by charter operator West Coast Railway Company. 57601 along with 47845 have both been treated to a repaint.
