Its Saturday 21st August 2004 and 37402 has de-railed its leading bogie as it was attempting to leave Newport Godfrey Road sidings. After much discussion by the attending officials the re-railing team were allowed to go about their duties and soon had the class 37 back on the tracks. Fortunately there did not seem to be too much damage done to the locomotive which has just been returned to service after bogie repairs at Toton. It was moved initially to Canton then on to Margam.

Network Rail come
to the 37402's rescue

The former 37274 became part of the 37/4 sub-class when it was created during the period 1985/86, when 31 Class 37/0 locomotives underwent refurbishment where the main generator was replaced with a main alternator, new CP7 bogies were fitted and Electric Train Supply was fitted. The ETH modifications enabled the locomotives to work passenger trains both in the winter and the summer. The converted locomotives were allocated the Class 37/4 sub class and were split between Wales and Scotland.
