With the recent
closure of Cardiff Canton as a
maintenance depot many
locomotives have made their way
to their former home for
storage. The main shed now
contains a large number of
locomotives including members of
classes 37,47 and 56. Although
most of the newest arrivals are
in secure storage many are
located outside and open to the
elements.
However Canton still has a
valuable role to play it seems
with the recent visit of several
class 58's for tyre turning
before leaving the country for a
long term Spanish vacation.
Margam will now play an
increasingly important role in
the region, taking stored stock
from Canton and its regular
maintenance duties for EWS
traction. It is currently
working on reinstating several
class 37's for autumn sandite
duties.
