Style Guide

The following information will help you understand the wide range of wedding photography options, making it easier to find the right photographer for you. A basic understanding of these styles will save you plenty of time and trouble when it comes to choosing a photographer.

Traditional style

This is the timeless style that you've probably seen time and time again. The hallmark of the traditional wedding photography style is carefully posed photographs of the key moments. This approach is very time consuming, and as a result, the bride and groom end up spending less time with their guests. The wedding album look is attractive, yet predictable.

Wedding photojournalism

This has become a very popular style of wedding photography, featuring a series of candid photos covering the entire day. Wedding photojournalism gives you a series of unique images designed to "tell the story" of your day. There is no pre-planned "shot list," only the photographer's instincts; the images are unpredictable.

Illustrative style

The illustrative style photographers place the subjects in certain settings to take advantage of good lighting or beautiful backgrounds. Then, once the scene is set, the couple and their party are free to be themselves, and this results in a more spontaneous feel.

On top of traditional shots, you may want to get portraits or candids of specific couples or families that are not in the wedding party since framed photographs make great gifts. You can have these printed and give them as birthday or holiday gifts.
